Bitcoin Tests Critical Support as Fed Policy Adds Pressure
Can Bitcoin hold critical support as Fed policy keeps pressure elevated?
Bitcoin (BTC) is sitting around $75,550, right on top of critical support, as markets wait for the Federal Reserve with a 92.7% probability of a 25 basis point rate increase already largely priced in. The bigger question is what comes next: whether the Fed message helps bring the United States 10 Year Treasury yield lower, while crypto absorbs weaker sentiment following the failed Clarity Act procedural vote.
In One Minute
The expected 25 basis point Fed increase is not really the surprise here. What matters is the message about future rate increases and whether a relatively hawkish, data dependent Fed gives Treasury buyers more confidence and allows the 10 Year Treasury yield to fall. In crypto, Bitcoin is testing $75,500, and that daily closing level is the line I am watching most closely. Hold it, and the bull flag stays alive. Lose it, and roughly $67,000 or slightly below becomes the next major support area, with the broader bear market still technically intact.
The Setup
The macro setup comes down to Federal Reserve policy and Treasury yields.
A 25 basis point increase is already largely factored in. The real issue is what the Fed communicates about future increases. A relatively hawkish but data dependent message could actually help the 10 Year Treasury yield move lower by reassuring Treasury buyers that the Fed is willing to respond to inflation when necessary.
That matters because stronger confidence in monetary policy can make buyers more comfortable owning United States debt at lower yields. So the reaction in the Treasury market after the Fed speaks may matter more than the rate increase itself.
What Changed
Crypto sentiment took another hit after the Clarity Act failed to advance in the Senate procedural vote on September 15. That does not change Bitcoin's chart by itself, but it removes a potential catalyst for greater regulatory clarity and could reduce some of the enthusiasm from investors who were waiting for a clearer framework before entering crypto.
Technically, Bitcoin also failed to do something very important: it did not make a higher high.
The previous major rally reached around $82,800 and change, and the latest rally stopped below that level. A healthy bullish structure should produce higher highs and higher lows. Until Bitcoin takes out that previous high, the broader bearish structure remains intact.
Digital Assets and Crypto
Bitcoin
Bitcoin previously broke out from an inverse head and shoulders while also breaking above a descending long term trend line. That combination produced the strong rally that followed.
Now the market is testing whether that move can survive.
The critical level is $75,500. Bitcoin was around $75,550, almost directly on top of that support. Price moved below it intraday, but buyers stepped in and pushed it back above.
What matters to me is the daily close.
As long as Bitcoin closes above $75,500, the current consolidation can still develop as a bull flag. That keeps open the possibility of another move higher and eventually a break above the previous $82,800 and change high.
If Bitcoin finally makes that higher high, that would provide technical evidence that the bear market bottom may already be in.
If Bitcoin closes below $75,500, that changes the setup. The next major support is around $67,000 or just below, an area that previously acted as resistance before Bitcoin broke above it and accelerated higher.
A breakdown could therefore send Bitcoin toward roughly $66,000 to $67,000, and potentially toward new cycle lows if the larger bearish structure continues.
Ethereum
Ethereum (ETH) has one important technical advantage over Bitcoin: Ethereum already made a short term higher high.
Ethereum previously formed an inverse head and shoulders, broke out, consolidated into a bull flag, and then made another strong move higher.
It is now holding another potential bull flag.
If that structure holds, Ethereum keeps the stronger short term technical picture and strengthens the argument that its bear market low may already be in.
If the bull flag breaks, I would look for a move down toward $2,000, potentially piercing that level. Around that area, I would become interested in buying Ethereum.
Zcash
Zcash (ZEC) is trading within a large parallel structure with several pivot lows lining up along the pattern.
The level I care about is $1,300.
If Zcash gets above $1,300, I would become interested in a short because price would be pushing into the upper portion of that larger parallel structure. It is not there yet, so there is nothing to force right now.
Hyperliquid
Hyperliquid (HYPE) also has a parallel structure, but the latest surge failed to reach the upper part of that pattern before price rolled over.
As price comes back down, I become more interested in buying closer to the lower portion of that structure.
There is no precise price level to work with yet, so this one requires patience.
Solana
Solana (SOL) has already broken below a previous technical support area and consolidation, so the short term chart has weakened.
The deeper setup is much more interesting.
Around $84, a descending parallel, an ascending trend line, and a horizontal technical level could all come together in the same area. If Solana reaches that level with those structures still aligned, I would view it as a significant buying opportunity.
That does not mean Solana has to reach $84. The odds of everything lining up perfectly may be only around 10%. The point is to know the level ahead of time so I am prepared if the setup develops.
Why It Matters
The Fed and crypto are dealing with two different questions, but both come down to confidence.
For the broader market, a firm but data dependent Fed could support confidence among Treasury buyers and potentially help longer term yields move lower.
For crypto, the Clarity Act setback removes some near term regulatory optimism, while Bitcoin is simultaneously testing the technical level that separates a possible bull flag from another leg lower.
That makes the price reaction more important than the headlines. Bitcoin either holds $75,500 and gets another chance to prove the bullish case, or it loses that level and puts $67,000 or slightly below back in play.
Key Levels
| Asset or Catalyst | Current Area or Setup | Key Level | What Matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Federal Reserve | Rate decision | 92.7% probability of 25 basis points | Future policy message matters more than the expected increase |
| Bitcoin (BTC) | Around $75,550 | $75,500 support | Daily close above keeps the bull flag alive |
| Bitcoin (BTC) | Previous rally high | $82,800 and change | A break above creates the higher high still missing |
| Bitcoin (BTC) | Downside support | $67,000 or just below | Next major area if $75,500 breaks |
| Bitcoin (BTC) | Broader downside | $66,000 to $67,000 | Bear market continuation could push price into this zone |
| Ethereum (ETH) | Bull flag | $2,000 | Bull flag failure could lead to a move toward or through this level |
| Zcash (ZEC) | Large parallel | Above $1,300 | Potential short setup |
| Hyperliquid (HYPE) | Pulling back within parallel | Lower portion of the structure becomes more interesting | |
| Solana (SOL) | Support has broken | Around $84 | Potential convergence of descending parallel, ascending trend line, and horizontal support |
The two levels that matter most right now are Bitcoin at $75,500 and the previous high around $82,800 and change. The first keeps the bullish structure alive; the second is what Bitcoin eventually has to break to prove that the larger structure has actually changed.
Bull Case
For Bitcoin, the bull case starts with holding $75,500 on a daily closing basis. If that happens, the bull flag remains valid and Bitcoin still has an opportunity to push higher and eventually take out $82,800 and change.
A confirmed higher high would be important because it would challenge the current bear market structure and strengthen the argument that the cycle low is already behind us.
Ethereum already has that short term higher high, so its bull case depends on keeping the current bull flag intact.
On the macro side, a relatively hawkish but data dependent Fed could strengthen confidence in Treasury policy and help the 10 Year Treasury yield move lower.
Bear Case
The Bitcoin bear case becomes much stronger with a daily close below $75,500.
That would invalidate the current bull flag setup and open the door toward $67,000 or slightly below, with roughly $66,000 to $67,000 becoming the major downside zone. If the broader bearish structure continues, new cycle lows remain possible.
Ethereum weakens if its current bull flag breaks, with a move toward and potentially through $2,000 becoming the next important scenario.
Solana has already broken below its previous support and consolidation, so the chart remains vulnerable unless that deeper $84 confluence eventually develops.
Zcash becomes interesting from the short side if price pushes above $1,300 into the upper portion of its parallel structure.
What to Watch Next
First, watch the Federal Reserve decision and, more importantly, the message about future rate increases. Then watch how the 10 Year Treasury yield responds.
In crypto, the immediate test is Bitcoin's daily close around $75,500. After that, the bigger confirmation remains whether Bitcoin can eventually take out $82,800 and change.
Ethereum needs to hold its bull flag. Zcash becomes a potential short candidate above $1,300. Hyperliquid becomes more attractive closer to the lower portion of its parallel. Solana becomes particularly interesting around $84 if the descending parallel, ascending trend line, and horizontal level all converge as expected.
Bottom Line
The market is sitting at a decision point between Fed policy, Treasury yields, and critical crypto support. Bitcoin's $75,500 daily close is the clearest line in the sand: hold it and the bull flag survives, lose it and approximately $67,000 or slightly below comes back into focus.
The levels are already defined, so there is no reason to chase the next move. Let price confirm the setup, stay patient, and keep the discipline around the levels that actually matter.
