Bitcoin Tests $81,000 Support as Forced Selling Brings Deeper Buying Zones Closer
Will Bitcoin reclaim $81,000 or fall toward $75,500?
Bitcoin (BTC) and the broader crypto market are falling sharply as high rates, concerns about OpenAI revenue, and forced liquidations pressure risk assets. The selling is bringing prices closer to potential buying zones, but that doesn't mean the decline is over. I’m separating quick rebound trades from the larger positions I want to hold through the next bull cycle.
In One Minute
Bitcoin has dropped $2,700 to just above $80,000, and $81,000 is the immediate level to watch into the daily close. A close below it opens the door to $75,500, with $66,000 to $67,000 remaining the main accumulation zone. Ethereum, Zcash, XRP, and Solana also have separate buying plans as prices fall toward support. The opportunity is developing, but the plan is to buy at specific levels rather than chase every bounce.
The Context
High rates are making it harder for crypto to attract and retain money. With a 10-year bond offering 5% to 5.3%, some investors may prefer that income over crypto’s volatility. Concerns about lower OpenAI revenue are adding pressure because crypto is tied to broader risk appetite.
Leverage is making the decline more aggressive as falling prices force positions to close. At 300 times leverage, traders leave themselves very little room for an adverse move. Those liquidations can push prices lower even when the longer outlook remains bullish.
Key Developments
The OpenAI concern is about revenue, not earnings. Lower earnings can reflect heavy spending to grow a business, but lower revenue raises a different concern about the strength of that growth. That weakness is another reason to watch the broader risk trade while crypto tests important support.
Bitcoin’s consolidation had remained potentially bullish, but the balance between potential reward and downside risk was becoming less attractive. Price was caught between major resistance and support, and the technical structure was showing warning signs. The latest decline now makes the daily close at support more important than an intraday move alone.
Digital Assets and Crypto
Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin has fallen $2,700 to just above $80,000 and is piercing the support boundary at $81,000. That intraday move does not confirm a lasting break because price can still recover before the daily close. A close below $81,000 would open the door to a retest of the previous low at $75,500.
The broader structure improved when Bitcoin broke above the descending trend line connecting its earlier lower highs. It then established a new high after rallying from around $58,000 to $85,000, eventually reaching roughly $88,000. That supports my view that Bitcoin has likely bottomed, but it does not mean the first rally must continue without a substantial correction.
The historical framework I’m watching calls for at least a 0.618 Fibonacci retracement after the initial advance from a cycle bottom. The deeper buying zone at $66,000 to $67,000 sits between the 0.618 and 0.786 retracement levels. It also aligns with the neckline of the head and shoulders pattern, making that area the main focus for accumulation.
My first potential trade is a brief drop below $80,000 followed by a bounce toward $83,000. That would be an intraday trade or a swing lasting one or two days. At $75,500, I would begin a smaller position for a longer swing trade. If price reaches $66,000 to $67,000, that is where I would commit the majority of the planned Bitcoin allocation.
The longer outlook remains $175,000 over the next one to two years. That expectation can coexist with a decline to $75,500 or $66,000 to $67,000 first. Predictions of $250,000 by the end of 2025 were followed by a top and pullback, which is why an ambitious target should never replace attention to the immediate setup.
Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum’s token
Ethereum has broken a key support line and is approaching the lower boundary of its previous trading range. That is the first area where I would consider a smaller purchase. If that support breaks, the larger accumulation plan moves below $2,000. Most of the planned buying remains reserved for that deeper area.
Zcash (ZEC)
Zcash is on my radar for a potential swing trade below $1,100. A rising trend line through earlier pivot highs and a previous stretch of sideways trading make this an area to watch for a bounce. The initial plan is a smaller entry with a rebound target around $1,300.
If that support breaks, I would look to the next lower structural support for a more substantial position intended for a longer hold. An additional purchase is planned around $675 if price reaches it. The important part is having the buying plan ready without assuming every level will be reached.
XRP (XRP)
XRP is falling toward first support around $1.25. The more aggressive buying level is $1.15, where earlier pivot lows provide the next reference. I’m treating those as separate stages rather than committing the full position at the first support test.
Solana (SOL)
Solana has broken key support, and I’m watching the structures below it for a larger entry. A rising trend line and a separate horizontal support area bring the main accumulation zone to $88 down to about $85. Smaller swing trades may develop before price reaches that zone. The larger buying plan remains focused on the overlap of those support structures.
Why It Matters
A sharp decline can create opportunity without immediately ending the selling pressure. Early bull market rallies can still experience substantial pullbacks as leveraged positions are flushed out and skeptical investors hesitate. That is why I can remain bullish on the next cycle while expecting lower prices first.
I prefer limit orders because they let me specify the price I’m willing to pay. Market orders can produce unfavorable fills during fast moves. A resting limit order can also qualify as a maker order, potentially lowering execution costs.
Key Details
| Asset | Support or Entry | Target or Larger Buying Plan | What Matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin (BTC) | $81,000 support; tactical entry below $80,000; $75,500 swing entry | $83,000 tactical target; $66,000 to $67,000 main accumulation; $175,000 over one to two years | Daily close below $81,000 exposes $75,500; deeper zone overlaps the neckline and 0.618 to 0.786 retracements |
| Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum’s token | Lower boundary of the previous trading range | Majority of planned buying below $2,000 | A failure of nearby support shifts attention lower |
| Zcash (ZEC) | Initial swing entry below $1,100 | $1,300 rebound target; larger entry at deeper structural support; additional purchase around $675 | Rising trend line and prior sideways trading define the first area |
| XRP (XRP) | First support around $1.25 | More aggressive buying at $1.15 | Earlier pivot lows guide the entry plan |
| Solana (SOL) | Main accumulation zone from $88 to $85 | Larger buying within that zone | Rising trend line overlaps a separate support structure |
Bull Case
Bitcoin recovering $81,000 before the daily close would preserve the immediate support boundary. A brief drop below $80,000 could offer the separate rebound trade toward $83,000. The earlier trend line breakout and new high support the broader bullish outlook, even if a deeper retracement comes first.
Zcash’s first buying area offers a potential bounce toward $1,300. Ethereum’s lower range boundary, XRP’s support levels, and Solana’s $88 to $85 zone are the areas where I’m watching for buying opportunities. Those entries serve different holding periods, so a quick rebound and a larger accumulation position should remain separate decisions.
Bear Case
A Bitcoin daily close below $81,000 would put $75,500 in focus. If that level breaks, the next major buying area is $66,000 to $67,000. High rates, weaker confidence in the AI trade, and forced liquidations could keep pressure on prices as those support levels are tested.
Ethereum losing its nearby support would shift the larger buying plan below $2,000. Zcash breaking its first area would move attention toward deeper structural support and potentially $675. XRP’s next buying reference is $1.15, while Solana’s larger accumulation zone remains $88 to $85.
What to Watch Next
The immediate question is whether Bitcoin recovers $81,000 before the daily close. I’m also watching for a brief move below $80,000 that could produce the tactical bounce toward $83,000. If selling continues instead, $75,500 becomes the next important test.
Across the altcoins, I’m watching Ethereum’s lower range boundary and Zcash’s area below $1,100. XRP’s $1.25 and $1.15 levels define its staged entries. Solana’s $88 to $85 zone remains the focus for the larger accumulation position.
Bottom Line
Bitcoin’s daily close around $81,000 is the immediate decision point. A longer bullish outlook does not remove the possibility of deeper losses before the next advance. Let prices reach the planned buying zones, and reserve the largest commitments for the deeper accumulation levels.
